lol typically villaridge

I normaly stay at the table as long as I feel confortable. When I get a bad feeling or feel like tilting then I try to stop immediatly. Unfortunately it does not work all the times. every thirty minutes to 1 hour, I'll have a short break for either coffe and or toilet
cheers snowfish

Like most poker-related questions, the answer is, "it depends." In this case, it depends on the type of games you play.
If you're a limit poker guy, I agree with SB. NEVER leave a good game just because "it's time." Rest assured, it's not. Your winnings are no more at risk at one table than another in that scenario, unless you're buying in short enough that you're likely to be all in. If you're doing that, step down a level.
If you're playing no limit or pot limit games, the answer can be different. I don't like to have more than about 3 BI on the table, unless I'm absolutely killing a table. I like to secure my winnings, and when playing online, there's typically another very good game around the corner.
The difference is how much you stand to lose on a single hand. You don't frequently stand to win much more because you have more in front of you in NLH, but you frequently stand to lose more. Hence, when playing online, I'm more willing to leave one game for another.
All of this goes out the window, of course, at a B&M.

I just started playing some ring games whereas i usually played MTT and sit n go's, but i would never set a specific time limit, instead i will set a won or loss goal, so that i either don't loose it all or i max my winnings out

My live ($1/2 NLH) game experience today might be demonstrative. I bought in for $200 at around 1pm, thinking I could eke out a relatively small win against the dayshift grinders. A "small win" was, in my mind, about $100 or being positive enough to grab a bite to eat somewhere nice with the Mrs. around 4pm. Sure enough, by 3, I was up about a hundred. However, the action just kept getting better, and my wife was napping at home anyway. I cashed out $521 ($321 profit) at about 6:30. A couple of things kept me there.
1. My wife hadn't indicated that she wanted me home. My wife and I have a peculiar relationship this way, but she's actually very supportive of my poker playing, since it's a +EV proposition. Last summer I made more playing live games than I did working in a restaurant, but I wasn't willing to subject myself to the variance involved with leaving the grill station behind.
2. A couple of things improved the table. There was a fairly aggressive guy on my left who slowed me down a lot early on. When he tried to make a move, I never had much of a hand. He bought in and busted out about four times, and put chips in the hands of people on my right on whom I felt I had a pretty good read, one of whom was starting to tilt.
3. A couple of the dayshift guys left, and were replaced by loose, recreational players. Where a preflop raise won me the blinds at 3pm, it was getting me 2-3 callers (or more) at 5 pm, which allowed me to play like a rock and still get good action.
4. Maybe a corollary to 3, but a tourney started at 7, which meant a lot of folks were there to gamble a little before the tourney, while a couple of others seemed to be gambling to try to get back to even before heading off to the tourney. This meant that the wonderful, beautiful action would likely dry up at 7, but it was still pretty juicy until the cash tables started thinning. (I don't consider their tourney worth my time-the blind structure is a little fast for my tastes, and I do better in cash games there anyway.)
So, to sum up, the action was good, and I was able to win playing a low-variance style of poker with no repercussions in my personal life, so I stayed, and ended up about $100-200 to the good, depending on when I "should" have left. I probably could have stayed later, as I felt focused, and was playing well, but I felt I had a good win (1.5 times my buy-in in profit), and I'd have had to stick around until people started busting out of the tourney (10pm or so) to see the action pick back up.Pokerstars: Fndrbndr79
