    Default Ring games vs tournaments

I don't play much ring games, when I do I seem to slowly build up my stack and/or lose big fast. Do you play any differently than you do in tourney's. I'm guessing you play similarly as you do in early tournament stages since you should buyin with plenty of blinds. Do you try to steal blinds in postion even though they arent really that big? May be I should read a book, but I'd rather hear your advice.

Stealing blinds is of little value. Playing in position (isolating weak players by raising their limps or 3-betting their raise (to isolate them & outplay them postflop) is key.

There are a bunch of differences between typical tournament play & deepstacked cash game (firstly... in tournament play it is very important to maintain one's stack.... so certain hands that might be + chipEV aren't necessarily hands you'll want to get involved in (didn't really explain that too well,.. 'chip preservation is important & escalating blinds in comparison to stack sizes will dictate how you might play in certain situations).... whereas in cash game, if it's +chipEV it's +$EV.

Would be hard to list all significant differences between ring and tournament play.
Let's say that many useful infos that will somehow dictate some of your moves while playing tournaments have no use when it comes to ring games, like dealing with bubble time, knowing "M" and "Q".
That's why it's probably "easier" to deal with ring games than tournaments.

I'm far from an expert at ring but..Yes!!!!

To me that's the biggest difference. Ring and tourney feel like completely different games to me. I don't play them alike. As long as you are practicing good BRM, you can survive those horrible beats and just reload.

Mostly play tournaments, very rarely ring games unless, Im trying to earn a deposit bonus which tends to cost me more then the bonus Im earning LOL.

Biggest difference as already stated is no point stealing blinds as they are static and suits a patient player

oh, so i don't have to revisit it, there's the never have thought about the glasses reference, the warmed/warming up reference and the misinterpretation reference...

all of these are linked but may not be obvious to those involved...
