Well I just won a small, friendly tourney this morning and cashed out...not on Poker Stars, which I definitely don't like, but I don't think all sites are rigged...

i play PS for while now, and i understand that cards can be bitches sometimes, but overall, i pushed a lot of bad beats alreeady, and i started from zero at PS and i now have about 100$, so i dont't think their cards are diferent from other sites. Just my opinion

    Default totally agree

    new to the forum hi!!

thought i'd search a froum for pokerstars...nightmare site.

Joined a few weeks back and played a small 4 table tourney and duly won...shock!!

Since then been getting so many bad beats its untrue.....seems everytime i get dealt my first decent pair someone has AA behind me....and this is no lie...its happened 5 or 6 times....thats no coincidence thats just plain fixed.

In one tourney I got done with JJ by AA. This same player was going all in on nothing before hand and pulling through....very suspicious.....some angry poeple getting knocked out...then me!!

I'm done with pokerstars....i've been hearing you always win in your first few tourneys then its all bad beats.

    Bye bye pokerstars

    Great first post!
I'd suggest you got lucky in the first one
(I actually took 2nd of over 900entrants in a micro buyin MTT my first game I played online (on FTP)... did it make me think it was 'fixed'?.. nope, I got lucky & am sure my play was sooo unorthodox (& just plain BAD.. despite thinking I was great!) that it must've been hell for the others to handread. I viewed the HH a couple yrs. after & WOW.. did I ever make some HERO CALLS!, lol).

Seriously though, you're probably not as good as you think you are... otherwise you'd realize what 'variance' is & wouldn't be making a post like this one. I guarantee you that if you were to put in some serious time & REALLY learn this game (& put in 1,000+ games) you'll come back to this thread & laugh at yourself for writing it (I kid you not).

That's a shame, your experiences sound interesting and you obviously have played a lot...maybe not on the right sites If you keep losing on PS don't play there...there are plenty of others...If it's the tourney money you are after, have to take the rough with the smooth, unfortunately

That's too bad. Maybe you'll come back? (poker is a great game)

Maybe you'll come back & post some HH's for discussion (no... not insinuating discussing whether it's rigged or not... I mean discussion ... as in.. "did I lose value here? Villain check-raises dry flop... how should I proceed?, etc. etc." Maybe your game would improve? Maybe other's games would improve by reading your posts?

Any area I have alot of room for improvement in is > mental/emotional aspect of the game (especially with Tournaments). I don't get all mad & sheeeite but I do waste a bit of time thinking negatively after results didn't go how I'd hoped (ie. getting villain to crai on turn when you have them crushed & then having them hit their miracle card). This is a big part of the game.

Not sure why you'd suggest that anyone reading your post here should quit playing online poker too? Why??
I'm not winning a gazillion dollars online.... & on PokerStars I'm about breakeven at best (up a bit in micro cash, ~even in SNG's, down a bit in MTT, & up a fair bit from priv. MTT's)... 'but' I certainly do enjoy having the oppurtunity to play on there! I think it's fantastic!

Default i think you are right

Its not just the cards falling bad for good players on PS. Maybe PS just isnt for me.

I just came 170th out of 7900 in a $22 tourney and lost when my all in was called by BB with k2 (the guy flopped a king and beat my pocket cards) He had no value as the call was for over half his stack and the BB was small in comparison. I got paid good but i'm starting to realise PS players are happy to call away most their chips with k2 and simular even though they just spent 6 hours getting them.

This isnt just young player aggression - even they know not to call an all in from a solid player. I watched the two guys at the top of my table chip up with the worst hands - somehow knocking their opponents out along the way. Sure they lost a few but most the time they just got lucky and both ended up with a significant stack. It's like they were new to the game or just didnt care and were riding on luck.

I usually take care not to put my tourney life on the line unless i'm pretty sure i have the opponent or the few left to call wont call. When i'm at the business end of the tourney i then change gears and play more aggressive preflop games in the right situations.

Looking at my recent games i think its when i change gear that all hell breaks loose. Maybe this is because there are still many unpredicable players who have been riding on luck and i'm thinking i'm playing solid poker players.

Maybe i'm changing gears too early. On the last tourney 1100 got paid so i thought when there was under 200 left it might be safe to play this way. I think this is where i am wrong... maybe on PS with so many players that play like idiots (no offence meant) there is no where i can safely change gears at the end of the tourney. Thing is if i dont change gears i'll either die a slow death to the blinds or miss so many flops that when i do hit a hand no one will want any of the action. I like my play - maybe it isnt good on PS anymore as the odds of getting called by one of these players and them hitting no longer make it a viable game - its more like bingo!

For the record i did play some sit and goes after my win and lost every one to straights and flushes made on the river (the runner runner striaghts made me laugh so much i actually enjoyed losing). Quite amasing as i only witnessed 1 straight and 2 flushes through out the whole of the tourney lol - Bad players on PS is one thing but that doesnt change my opinion about the way the community cards are 'picked'. It sucks sooo bad.

    Default so many variables

    hi

there are just so many variables that influence how and why people play the way they do ... and there is no way they will play entirely consistent through a tournament

ok they will generally have a default position ... and if you figure that out then that is a big help

but you see it live (Ive even done it myself) where after hours of playing and maybe not even in such a bad position, they've been disciplined for hours then all of a sudden they break ... either making a poor out of character decision or they lose energy and just throw the towel in ...

at the point they might get lucky or they might not

some of the plays Ive seen even in the most recent couple of live games have beggered belief ... and some even came out with quotes like "I'm a winner online, like I always come top 5 in every game" ... now you can figure that must be a) an exaggeration b) in SNG's
but thats a pretty weird self image of ability when clearly they are not online MTT genius or calculating odds or reading players

same play proceeds to push in 2x the pot against one player (when any sane person would have folded the other guy calls) - that wasnt genius knowing he could get 2x pot bet called it was a stupid bet and pure luck the other guy had flopped 2 pair (J7) and the other guy had J8 turning the 8

later same player pushes 7k into a 1200 pot (raised and called) and wonders why neither player calls ... he had AA (IMHO it was probably the biggest waste of AA all night) ... the guy who called the original raise had Arag and commented - "if you had bet something like 3000 you would have got me hooked and taken all my chips" ... the 7k push guy just really had no clue what he was doing despite in his he he thought he was genius

amusingly got stuck on his table again later and his mate got so pi**ed off with him that he called the clock on his each and every hand - he was sooooo slow hollywood-ing straightforward decisions

but you only need to stand outside and listen while everyone is having a fag break to hear the most diverse load of logic in the world of poker .. . each to their own

    now to online

factor in the online factor - unseen influences, the fact that there is no-one in front of them to laugh at bad plays etc etc

who knows maybe the cat just sh*t on the carpet, or the dog just ate his tea, or his girlfriend just went on life tilt that he is playing poker "again"

or most likely plain an simple the player has got deeper into a tournament than usual and is finding it hard to maintain a decent level of play ...

alot of people do get worse the longer they play - its a marathon after all

my point is that poker is a massively complex game to start of with then add in factors of life and luck which is more of the game than "good" / improving players really like to admit ... you then have meltdown or mistake hands happening as well as consistently bad / lucky players

    cheers scrawnybob

ps. to the guy who has only played a couple of weeks and won first game ... please look up articles on variance and dont thing your helmuth because you happen to win one game first

    Default totally sure its fixed

There is absolutely NO doubt the site is fixed.

I played a variety of tourneys over the past weeks to see if i found anything.

There are definetely patterns to the way the cards fall when 2 or more players are all in. The cards on the turn and river are that predicable at times i was able to call the number and in some cases the suit and number of the river card before it even fell.

It's remarkable these theives have go away with this for so long.

It's remarkable how often good players loose to a 2 outter on the river.

It's remarkable how certin simular situations on different tables at the same time and at different times during the day - end with the same result.

I've had a royal flush and seen so many 4 of a kinds full houses, flushes and straights it's crazy and just wouldnt happen in real life. More importantly it wouldnt happen to 2 players on the same table as often as it does on PS.

My favourite PS f-off's are when a straight hits the river for the moron betting big with air against a set or better - seen it a million times and cant stop laughing.

Another fav is AA - gets flushed so many times my ribs hurt laughing. Usually against a lower pocket pair ( you got it 2 suits). The flop gives 2 and the turn and river complete the morons flush - bye bye AA.

This site is a joke and why oh why it is allow to continue to rob, theive and pillage normal people on a daily basis off so much money is beyond me.

Shame on all the governments for not bringing these crooks to justice before now.
