Thread: Online Poker reality

    Default Online Poker reality

Today i was playing in a sng 2.50 and i was lead stack. I was doing very well and there was 4 people left out of 9. I had 4500 chips while 2nd place had 2200. I had pocket jacks and the flop was ten nine queen. I felt very good with my pocket jacks so i bet 1000 both people called and one was all in. The turn is a ten feeling even better with my pocket jacks i bet 2000. The other guy calls all in. He has Ace King and the other guy has pocket eights. I feel incredible estatic. Of course the online poker way, he rivers another two and im baq down to the 1000s. Should i of played it any other way.

Your post doesn't really make sense. Can you post the hand history?

Default think he meant another two 8's

    hi

I think he meant another two 8's but then re-reading it that would have meant 6 community cards - your right the post makes no sense

    however

I definately wouldnt have felt extatic with jacks at any point to be honest

only after seeing they had KA and 88 would I feel I was slightly ahead of one player with either hand - and behind against two ... afaiks before the river (whatever card that turned out to be) ...

It was a three way crap shoot - all with coin flips

    IMHO holding JJ

    and getting a flop of 9 10 Q

you shouldnt be assuming your in anyway ahead - you have worse than top pair, and a draw

the other player could easily have trip 9's, 10's or possibly even Q's but most likely IMHO
AQ giving top pair (better shape than jacks) or KA ... KA being the only likely hand your beating that would call a 1000 bet

the turn comes down 10 ... you bet 2000 (even worse play imho)

it hasnt helped you at all - proportionately to how much its more likely to have helped the other players

you know have to worry about a FH with 9's or Q's or better two pair with AQ or quad 10's and your still no nearer your straight which with a pair on the board is likely to be busted

most importantly the weakest hand preflop you could have been facing that would continue to call has you beat totally AQ

IMHO the only thing worse than playing middle pair is playing a over pair to the middle that doesnt beat anyone simply pairing the highest card on the board

this isnt meant to be critical - but afiaks whatever the river turned out to be, however confusing the OP - the obvious long term problem is over valuing things like JJ on what is actually more of a problematic flop than a good one

    cheers scrawnybob

Well said indeed. You gotta loosen up the icey grip on pocket pairs. They funniest thing to see is a player who is dealt kings when the board hits an ace and they try and buy their way out of the hand. Knowing KK is a good hand and "should win" they pour chex into the pot to take down the hand that never was.

Yes, I think the hardest thing for players is to let go of their poket rockets when they know they are beat. I think we all learned the hard way with this one.

Pocket pairs are one of my favourite hands to play, especially if I have a big stack and can set mine. Having said that, knowing when to let go is one of the most crucial aspects of playing poker.

What were the Blinds at ?? I wouldn,t have bet out 1,000 chips in the 1st place.A smaller feeler would have worked just as well. And as chip leader I may have pulled out of the hand and let them fight it out.

I kind of thought he meant the guy rivered another 8, giving him a boat. Can't explain the wording of "rivered another two" unless it was just bad english "rivered another, too."
