Ah... found it! It was 48 rebuys in a $1,000 rebuy WSOP Event in 2006. I believe he cashed & profitted but obviously not too huge of ROI in that one, ha ha ha.

Okay, that was in fact 'not a fact', I got that info. off of another forum & then found it to be incorrect while reading Phil Gordon's Little Green Book for the 5th time (yes I've read that book 5 times now, lol and have 2copies of it).
It was actually in the WSOP 2004 $1,000 rebuy. There were a total of 538 entrants with 534 rebuys & 262 add-ons. "Daniel Negreanu went broke a total of 27 times". He placed 3rd for $101,000. It was also thought that Daniel may have had a large 'last longer bet' with someone.

i remember watching the coverage of that rebuy tourny and wondering why anyone would rebuy that many times, a last longer bet would make a lot of sense. i thought it was later than 2004 though, a year after he broke the rebuy record i thought they trimmed down the amount of rebuy tournys at the wsop, i would have guessed around 06 or 07 but i'm sure your right.

Terminal, I have to agree with petey. I do not like rebuys. i only enter them with the understanding that i will rebuy a max of 3 times. I try to make it for an hour because the addon gets you more chips than a rebuy. I usually do not have the patience
to last the hour. I will be tempted with my AK or KK and you have 4 callers hanging
on you and one of them pulls the 2pr out of their arse every time.

Good to see you again playing the thurs Bodog tourney.

If you're playing them with intentions of rebuying 3x but then if I'm hearing you right, it sounds as if you're raising & getting multi-callers preflop? (w KK, etc.). I'd strongly suggest reading up on rebuy strategy (from someone who's good, ie. a poker coach) OR watch a rebuy MTT training video. Because of the nature (& strategy) of a rebuy, you'd easily be able to just ship it allin with your KK preflop (even if it seems like a RIDICULOUSLY BIG overshove).. or open raise it up 10x...and you'll still in all likelihood get looked up by hands as weak as mid pr >> 88, 99, TT. The first time I watched a good player's rebuy training vid. I was kinda shocked but at the same time it brought it all into focus (ie. if he had a hand like AQs, sometimes even AJs, TT+ and there was one raiser ahead of him he'd just SHIP IT, (player read dependent of course).
The object isn't to make it to the add-on... the object is to get a BIGSTACK by the time the rebuy period is finished so that you'll have a decent stack & will be competitive in a deespstacked tournament (<< which is really all a rebuy is... it's a deepstack tournament that starts after the rebuy period). There is a means behind the rebuy period madness though & the best players are trying to take full advantage of it.

YAH PLAYFUL AGREES SOMEWHAT...DO THE REBUYS RITE AT THE START...IF YAH CAN HOLD ON TO YOUR CHIPS TILL THE ADDON PERIOD ..DO SO BECAUSE THE ADDON IS THE MUCH BETTER VALUE USUALLY...USUALLY WHEN PLAYFUL DOES THIS ..SHE GOES DEEP IN THE TOURNEY

Hopefully not being redundant here with this post.....
Micro rebuy MTT's can be quite profitable & a decent player can have an edge over the field as the tourney really begins once the rebuy period is over... when the 'deepstacked' tournament begins.
There's a guy I know who plays alot of MTT's online. Part of his BRM is that once his roll gets below a certain point he will then play a bunch of micro & low buyin rebuy MTT's to build it back up (this is a player who is up over 1/4mil in 'profit' in MTTs on Fulltilt & regularly plays low to med. & higher buyins > $26 to $535. He's got an interesting BRM plan where he's regularly withdrawling $'s and tries to keep his online roll at ~$10k but if running poorly this can fairly quickly drop below $3k.. which is when he'll play a bunch of the micro rebuys.). << longstory short.... he's a very good player & will occassionally play the micro rebuys as they can be very profitable.

PS... hmm.. maybe I'll play the $3 rebuy on Fulltilt at 20:35 today & the one on Stars @ 20:00, lol.

Reading the thread we can see 2 different kinds of players. The ones that try to avoid the crazy loose game, which i include myself, and the ones that reckons that re-buys are a different beast and have to be faced with another spirit. Im interested in knowing if people from the first group ever migrate to the second?
I would like to avoid these type of tourneys but they are so prevalent that sometimes is difficult to find regular toruneys taht would fit my BR

I migrated to the second group. I used to hate rebuys. I used to get so irritated watching people play so stupid. But now, I have changed my view toward them. If you are going to play a rebuy, you have to account for rebuying. If it is say a $1 rebuy. Plan on spending at least $6. This doesn't mean you have to run with scissors the whole time, just plan on rebuying a few times if necessary. If you get KK, by all means, call anything. If you lose, just rebuy (double rebuy), and go at it again. I would probably limit the rebuying though so you don't have to make 3rd place to make your money back. If you have spent your limit that you set, just leave when you get taken out.

The last rebuy I played was the $0.25 rebuy at bodog. I bought in, and rebought right away before tourney started, so I have the max chip stack. I never did lose all my chips. I was 2nd in chips at the break, and I took the add on. I placed in it, and got paid $0.97. I profited, only slightly, but a profit all the same. And, it was so cheap, I just didn't really care, and I was dishing out horrible bad beats for the duration of the rebuy period. It was hilarious some of the suck outs I pulled. People were bitching and whining... I took out 2 players in one hand with my 8-9s vs. 10-10, and 7-7, flopped a pair, turned two pair! BLAH BLAH BLAH in the chat box. LOL. It is just a good laugh. I have won 1st place in this same rebuy (different night). It was like $7-$8, and I was invested $1.75. I don't play it for the money, just for kicks (it is cheap). But obviously, it is nice to place 1st in any tourney.

So take that for what it's worth. I think if you are going to play a rebuy, do so planning on rebuying more than once, and you won't be disappointed when your kings get sucked out. Anyways, peace.
