Patience is the Key for Me
Over the past month or two, my MTT game has been off. I think part of my problem was that I was playing in too many smaller private tourneys. I think I was getting a little burned out playing with all the same people every single day. I found myself slowing losing my bankroll buying in to the tiny tourneys every day. My odds of cashing in on those seemed to be non-existent. I started playing some SnG's instead and am I glad that I did.
When I play SnG's, I realized that "Patience" is the biggest factor for me. A lot of the SnG players seem to get bored very quickly and end up playing too many hands. Due to playing so many MTT's I have developed a knack (most of the time..anyway..lol) for remaining patient and not playing too many hands. I eventually can cash in on the "impatients" at the table and end up in the money.
I started at Carbon with the Dollar Dazzler SnG's a few weeks ago and moved up as I consistently was able to make it to the payout. Once I make it to the money, I start to loosen up a little, as long as I get a few decent hands..lol.
So, hopefully, after a few weeks of backing off the MTT's, I have gotten my "MTT Mojo" back and can round up a few points for my team.

I have been getting burned out on private MTTs as well, and SnG is the next logical progression. I like to play cash games as well.

Yeah I hear yah mamma. I've been getting frustrated myeself about waiting for tournaments I really look forward to then making bad plays or being in the wrong mood when they come around (sunday). So I really have also rediscovered my game on the SnG's. I really see the fruits of disciplined agressive play coming out of it. Keep it up.

I think a problem with sng's can be you play too tight to start with...then start getting a low stack and two that are left do their best to get you out - its a stuggle then to get a hand to play - as you just get out raised, so need to hope for an all in hand

Yeah, sometimes, patience turns into something else.. kind of a fear of losing all your chips after being so patient for so long...lol. Sometimes I get the feeling that I need to try to get paid off after being so good and patient, and then I blow it by going all in on a mediocre hand.
Then sometimes the same thing happens when I get that feeling that I HAVE to hurry up and double up before the blinds go up. These feelings have put me out the SnG also, because I was afraid that if I didn't act on the first decent cards I'd had in the last 10 hands, I wouldn't get the chance before being blinded out.
But, many times, I have come back from practically nothing to place, and even win a SnG by keeping patient, so I still think that it is the Number 1 key factor in a SnG, for Me personally.
I have to say that being patient does not mean being passive. When I get a good hand, or that feeling that I can take a pot, I will be aggressive. That's how I was taken out of 8 SnGs in one day.
The patience factor didn't matter that day... Lol.

I love sitngos! Patience is definitely key and well timed aggression. I recently had to take a force sabatical from poker because work got crazy but I still managed to play a couple sitngos a week. They kept me sane. I try to aviod going all in pre flop because I have found that coming back from a large chip deficiet is easier in this format than a mtt. So I do not worry as much about how many big blinds I have left, I keep track of it but it is not as large a factor as it is in tourneys (for me anyway). I play the cards, the situation, and the player, not always in that order.

Patience definitely works in SNGs. Sometimes you just need to win a hand or two to make the money.
