    Default Winter Olympics - tragedy

Anyone keeping the tv on all day to watch Olympics. It is not as great as summer Olympics, but I love watching people at their best.

A tragedy on that luge event. Do you think it was his error or the design of the track that caused his tragedy? I say track design, totally. I saw the crash one time, but I turn my head every time they replay it. It is so wrong to show a person's last moments.
I admit I'm wimpy, I cannot watch Cops because I hate seeing human suffering.
Are we living in Roman times that we need death to entertain the masses?

I don't think it was shown in the UK, just reported on. I could be wrong.

I have to agree with you there is no need to show it over and over. It's unfortuate we live in a world where news has to have the pictures to back it up what ever the circumstances.

It has to be track design, it left no safety margin for error. It's unfortunate that these things happen and it's a shame that the other Georgian athlete pulled out.
I see they moved the start to the original women's start which makes a difference of 6mph at the bottom of the track. I would of thought that this evens the field out a bit more for the more inexperienced athletes.
Happens too often, like Earnhardt, took his death to get those neck braces installed in Nascars.
Anyway, it's a horrible subject and I just hope that somebody or even better multiple somebodies step up to the plate and accept liability. I know money is no compensation in a case like this but that kid's parents should be taken care off.

From what I've heard, the track was too fast. Exceeded the recommended max for the event.

Apparently the Canadians aren't too keen on letting the foreign teams practise beforehand to familiarise themselves with the track...don't know how true this is? It was one of the reasons given for the tragedy;the guy is said to have told his father beforehand that he was also scared of that part of the track and was probably too inexperienced for it.

I think that while it is reasonable to take a critical look at all the aspects... I find it inappropriate to be assigning blame. It is not needed. We can make adjustments for the future without going head-hunting. I see this every time we have a disaster or event which someone dies. The athletes who perform this and any dangerous sport know the risks they are under. I hope we find ways to keep the sports as safe as possible while not going on a witch hunt. Just my opinion.

Default To fluff or not to fluff...

    You're quite right, Stix!

...didn't u take 20$ off me in a tourney recently...I'm not assigning any blame, tho,...just that I don't think I'd surveyed the track sufficiently...

The way i see things going on, you should probably prepare yourself to worst thing to come. Crimes, disasters and wars won't stop and the "fascination" for death won't end cause we're human beings still wondering what's gonna happen next.
Another disaster for sure for us to forget the older one.
200.000 Haïtian people died and make news for more than 3 weeks. Why did watch news everyday? Why did you watch a hundred times Twin towers collapsed? Probably to feel alive...
About the accident, let's say that Canucks ain't known as good designers.
Don't you think life is risky?
PS:I hope you are all ready to smile at death, cause that's the better way to deal with it.

"The federation that runs bobsled says its goal was for all pilots to have at least 40 runs before they compete. Many have, but some have had fewer than half that."

Yeah, I can't believe one of the comments by a former bobsledder...

"If it's too fast, go home. Go and get married and have some children,".

I thought marriage and having children were two of the most dangerous things a person could do. That's my personal opinion.
