Default MLB Thoughts - Spring Training

The premise of this thread is to let everyone know who you cheer for and what they've been doing in spring training, also a prediction of how they might fare when the season begins in a short time.

I follow the Blue Jays, perennial runner-ups to the Yankees and Red Sox in the A.L. East. We never have the kind of bankroll the aforementioned teams do, but we still manage to stay semi-competitive each season.

During the off-season the Blue Jays traded away Roy Halladay, arguably one of the best pitchers in the game and my favorite player over the last decade. We lost AJ Burnett to free agency via the Yankees last season, so our pitching is a big question mark going into the season. We have Dustin McGowan back from the long term injury reserve, freshman Ricky Romero and Kyle Drabek (via Phillies) to name a few. Good pitchers but very young and with much to prove.

Our top prospect (Travis Snider) has been ripping up the pre-season and looks to be a lock to make RF. We also signed Cuban defector Adeiny Hechevarria who was also heavily pursed by the pinstripes, he will play the SS and give us well-needed depth at the position.

Still though, we are far too young and unlike the Rays our players are not rounding in to prime form just yet, and we seem destined for another 4th place finish in the East. Hoping eventually we'll at least grab a wild card spot because I haven't seen a Jays playoff game since 1993, which also happened to be their last World Series victory.

    unlike the Rays...

You are not referring to the Tampa Bay 'Devil' Rays are you???

The Rays lost to New York 6-4 last Thursday, then turned around Friday to split the series with 6-2 win.

I drive by the Spring training camp of the New York Yankees across from Raymond James Stadium and it shows so many banners from winning years, it just makes one want NY to disappear.

Sure am, I don't get a chance to follow them very much as baseball is only my third favorite sport, but they have a great young team and should be very competitive for the next few years. Last season was a slight disappointment after making the W.S. the year previous but they have all the tools to emulate the great teams in the league.
