Russia and Qatar were awarded the 2018 and 2022 World Cup of Soccer (Football)

I think its great for football for Russia to get the World Cup, they are a decent playing country and the economy is much different then the old Iron Current era. Hockey, a staple sport for Russia much like it is for Canada also plays well on the world stage and badly needed new stadiums to grow within. With the 2018 World Cup hosted in Russia is good for all football.

I dunno about this pick, really it should have went to Australia they have earned it. For a country that has to do a-lot of travel and play generally weaker teams in its Asian area, then to play beyond expectations at previous world cup.

I also believe its time we have the World Cup every year, instead of every 4 years.

Russia (actually USSR), had a great exciting team on 1986, but they were badly cheated by some referees, probably anticomunist. Since them they failed in impressing me, including the last WC they missed.
You sure have a point with Australia. Even New Zealand almost qualified for the playoffs.
In Brazil we use to say that football is the only sport where the really unexpected can happen for joy of the underdogs. That´s just because most of the people here dont play poker and face a run of bad beats

I honestly don't mind countries like USA, Germany, England, Italy or Spain don't get the World Cup. They have more then enough fan support that attend when the games are not hosted by them. Think I heard almost 50% of tickets for the SA WC were bought by Americans....

Brazil hosted the games in 1950, with 5 WC wins since in different era's, not only does the nation of Brazil deserve to host 2014 games I would like to see the spectacle they will show (much like Canada does for hockey, China does for ping pong or India/Pakistan does for cricket) as host of a game they hold close to their heart.

As crooked as many want to make the selection process to be, it would be near impossible to make everyone happy with a choice. There are so many great teams and countries that do deserve to host the World Cup, but with the football tournament every four years how do you satisfy them all? While trying to promote the game to developing countries in need of a reason to build facilities.

Would of liked to see the U.S get a bid but it didnt work out that way, not sure Qatar was a good pick though.
