Default UFC 129 in Toronto .........

Canada likes the UFC selling out 55,000 seats in 2 days or less.Anytime GSP fights you better get to a sports bar holding the fights early because there jammed packed. And this Shields record and ground game will be his best challenge.I wanna see Jose Also and the Randy Couture match could be interesting as well.Over-all its a good card.
UFC is banned in most Canadian Provinces but i think the profits from drawing 55,000 fans from all around the Greater Toronto Area(GTA) and beyond may have been a factor in changing there minds and allowing UFC in Ontario $$$. Money talks.
Anyways UFC is big in Canada.I,m glad they changed the EST start time to 9pm.You have to get to the limited bars that will pay for the feed early to get a seat.So by the time the main event starts at midnight I,m usually more than half in the bag drunk.
Anyways I,m looking forward to this one ... I don,t know how long i will be able to play the 4king Carb game.Saturday nights ... thats why i petitioned to have the poker games start earlier.

Its hard to pick against Pierre because he is prolly a top 3 pound for pound fighter in the world but something is telling me that Shields will win this fight. They both are very good and the best in this weight class. Shields hasnt faced as big of competition as Pierre in the past since he is coming from smaller promotions but he has faced some tough opponents and his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is prolly second to none. Im goin with my gut on this fight and taking Shields to win this fight and become the champion.

    $11 Million in gate sales
When you think about it, you should include a greater distance then just the GTA.
Hamilton, Kitchener example are not part of the GTA, which are much larger population and closer then some of the furthest parts of the GTA (Brock) And if you look at those numbers, the GTA+ would be the size of Chicago.

Clearly going into the fight, Shields had to submit or KO GSP to win the title.
when GSP's face split open I wasn't really to worried, I had actually just re-watched the GSP.vs.BJPenn fight #1 on Spike TV earlier in the night.

What do you think about , Dana White showcasing UFC events via Facebook, then SpikeTV and PayPerView. The guy is a marketing genius.

..also I had seen Royce_Gracie on the Fan590 talking about making a return bout.

GSP won again and retained his title. He was more aggressive the entire fight and Shields couldnt get him to the ground at all. But for the fight to be standing up the entire time i think Shields did great and i dont think anybody thought he could go 5 rounds standing up with GSP the entire time. He might not of landed as many shots but his shots did more damage to GSP's face then the shots he took. The one judge scored it 50-45 which i thought was crazy cuz you had to give Shields at least 1 of those rounds if not 2 like the other judges did. What about the kick from Machida? That was a hell of a way for Couture to go out of the sport.

I really do like GSP, he is a true Champion and he is all class, unlike most of these wanna be thugs like all of Shields buddies in Gracies Camp Chronic. So anytime any of the Camp Chronic Clowns are fighting i will pick their opponents everytime. I loved how Nate Diaz got tossed like a bitch in the 3rd round of his loss, lol. The 1 thing i don';t like about GSP is that after 90 % of his fights he apologizes to his fans for not doing enough, that shit is old already, instead of doing this every time he should be more agressive. The only time in a very long while he looked really aggressive was vs the ultimate douche bag Koschek and thats only because Kos got way under GSP skin.

LOL alot of people dont like the fighters in that camp, but i think they are entertaining and no doubt they are some of the best fighters in the world. Especially Nick Diaz, Jake Shields and Gilbert Melendez.

I have to reply to Assistane(AJ) Raven and Petey but I,m still riding the Devil from Saturday night.I can,t honestly remember the end of the fight.Some-one said GSP,s face was smashed/bleeding but i remember in an earlier bout some-ones elses face looked horrible. He had a giant welt on the side of his head?It looked brutal and i was thinking to myself.. cut it open and let the pressure off it.?I think he came back and won the fight too.So glad the refereee didn,t stop it.
AJ talked about the Toronto area.Largest city in Canada. But your right AJ I bet many of the fight fans came from ALL around like Hamilton for example as you said.I bet many were from upstate NY as well. And my point was it,s all great for the economy. There staying in Hotels and eating at Restaurants.
I watched this amazing prefight show and you may want to QUOTE this.GSP lost 22 lbs to make the weigh in.Don,t try this at home Kids.He dropped 22 pounds and he gained it back in 24 hours. !! That is shocking isn,t it.That is an athlete but I don,t think its Fair.!! They should have to weigh in maybe 3 hrs before the fight..wouldn,t you agree. ?? Here,s a 175 fighter but the next day in the Ring he is 190 lbs or more ?? It,s an unfair advantage to some fighters who can,t do that.Actually GSP can move up a weight category and still win i bet.

It would have been tough for GSP to "finish-him" since GSP could only see out of 1 eye for most of the fight, that is the only reason it went 5 Rds IMO. Look at the first fight between GSP and BJ Penn, GSP got a broken nose and cut above the eye in the first round, still GSP won the fight.

Even vans full from Barrie made their way...
As a Canadian, you know how we are about driving long distances.

There was a study done about where would be the best place to put a new hockey team in the NHL and economically anywhere in Southern Ontario (specially 2nd team in Toronto) was the best choice.
I've even written a study showcasing why S.Ontario will eventually be the capital of the world, and only partly because of hockey

Dana White even talked about how "Canada is the mecca for mixed martial arts," even before UFC 129 was sanctioned. Think of the die hard GSP fans, would they drive from Quebec to Toronto? For sure!

With the amount of juice that went into the city and tax money back to the province and country, don't be surprised if another event is staged not long after Brazil.

Imagine GSP vs Silva in Toronto?
That would be like Wrestle Mania 18, Attendance 68,237 @Skydome (Rogers Centre)

the irony of that is, in WM18 the Rock vs Hogan was dubbed "Icon vs. Icon"
