does it really matter that soccer is really football, or that football is a different game from soccer - depending on your perspective?
The answer is a resounding yes - to everyone. This question has been argued about for long enough now that the new generation have no links or allegencies to any of the original arguments, and so therefore are simply quoting their perspectives as the right answer. (This kind of ignorance is a form of racism for sport (sportism if you will) and needs to be sorted out once and for all).
Who is right? I already know the difinitive answer - you just have to think about it logically
Football is what some people call soccer - its time for a global recognition of this and the acceptance from the few, that the rest of the planet is actually correct.

football to americans is american football -shortened, football to the welsh is rugby football - shortened...and aussie rules, and so on. This is itself confirms that these other cultures have already differentiated their sport from that of original football, therefore they are already acknowledging that they have named their versions after the one and only - so they will never have a leg to stand on in the 'real football' stakes -
...however, my point is that now these other versions have become accepted as forms of football -even though the games are totally different (none of which actually use ball-to-foot skills as an integral part of the game -except one), so should there be a universal name change. If someone told you to change football to soccer, you wouldn't do it - should these other versions accept the same conditions -they wouldnt do it either -football is football to them too. They are, of course, wrong but at least should acknowledge that soccer is the one and only, worldwide accepted, real and only game that is football.

See, there's always some drunken leatherneck in the discussion. The UK says we were first with the name, and thats true. Then one side or the other will start detracting from the PURE athletic skill and talent it takes to be a professional in EITHER game. Then one side will say, SOMETHING about how one side is a coward because they wear pads, or idiots for NOT wearing pads, then the core of the discussion is lost while each side insults each other. here it is in a nut shell, and this is how it will always be.
When 2 people are talking about about football, and theyre not Americans, NFL fans, or in the US military; they are talking about what us Americans call soccer, wich is REALLY football, because it came first.
DId we invent a game after soccer, and call it football? Yes we did. Is that game watched by 100's of million of people because it fun exciting and takes advanced athletic prowess: yes it is
Is Soccer watched by billions of people, and has been for centuries in some form or another: yes it is Do people watch it because some of th ebest athletes on the planet are playing in it: yes

well in my country is called fotbal so for me football is the one with 11 players and i think the other is the american football who is more like rugby i think
Listen up guys - the point of this discussion was to definitvely decide whether there should be only 1 football (as Highlander said 'there can be only one' !), globally recognised, with no dispute...we are only arguing over a name, but who deserves it. There is only 1 darts, 1 baseball, 1 cricket, 1 rugby (well 2 rugbys, but one gay version), 1 basketball etc..
Has anybody ever found out if the name 'football' can be patented...i might buy it and give it to tennis, that'll confuse the hell out of everyone.
