i can tell you the exact date i started playing poker, sept 7th 2005. I was on an university exchange to canada, and was living in halls of residence. My room had a common room opposite but all it was used for was to play poker for $5 a time. i'd stood and watched a couple of times in a hope to meet people. 3days after arriving i was asked if i wanted to play in what turned out to an 18 player game split into three tables. i knew the basic rules etc so just played basic A-B-C poker, didnt bluff or anything and managed to do ok for my first time. I didn't know anything about position etc etc etc, these guys had been playing at least one game a day for the past year as the NHL had gone on strike so they couldnt watch the hockey. As time went on I started to get better and learnt from these guys, who were actually pretty good. one of them has paid off his student loan and tution fees with poker winnings and still makes enough to enjoy the type of social life students are meant to. lol
