These tips rule!
I wish I had the good fortune to read something like this when I first started playing poker many moons ago
I have a couple of additional notes for #6 and #8.
6. Watch and Learn...
I just wanted to point out one of the best places to do this;
On PokerStars I reckon the 'replay' games are great, where you can watch a final table with everyones hole cards on show.
As soon as a new hand is dealt it's good fun to quickly predict how the hand will pan out..and then see what actually happens
8. Button & Position...
All I wanted to add here was the 'Buy the button' maneuver - 'A bet or raise which makes or is made to make the players behind you fold, thus making you the last to act in future betting rounds'.
With only 4 or 5 players left at the table, I reckon this is a very powerful move..especially playing from UTG preflop.
This is probably quite overlooked by new players to the game.

Watch & Learn
When i first started playing, there was a member of the Fulltilt Poker forum, user name is mrrocksoild i believe he is from the U.K from his accent. He would play in 9 handed S&Gs and make a narrated video of it from start to finish and post them on the forum. This guy was a very good player, he made about 4 or 5 of these vids at different buy-ins. The moral of this story is if you get the chance to rail someone you may know and have them tell you what they are doing VIA yahoo messenger etc...... do it, could be a big help to your game in the long run.

Another tip
Go back and look at the hand histories to find your leaks/weaknesses.
After almost every session I go back and look at all the hands I lost more than a BB. Look for mistakes etc... Then I go look at all the hands I win more than a BB. Again to look for mistakes that I know better to be making. Just because I won the hand, does not mean I played it right. Then I go look at hands when in the blinds. Then the hands in the HJ, CO, Button when folded around etc... in other words, I wind up looking at them all looking for specific things in each scenerio.
After you ID your leaks, plug them up, and follow up later on to make sure you have not fallen back into bad habits. It cost me plenty to learn to make sure I was not continuing. It really sucks to break even on a day, go look, then run a few reports and realize every bit gained was lost due to a single leak, one that I knew better than to be making but had slacked in the discipline to avoid making or just "forgot" about for a while, or just wanted to do it so did it anyway (No idea why really...). I now check monthly at a minimum to make sure I am not going back to old ways, the time spent doing so is well worth it when you realize your just flushing money down the toilet, and the amount of money it adds up to.
While your doing your own, you will realize others as well that was missed during the play. Note it, next time exploit theirs, while your improving yours.Last edited by Nerice; 03-10-2009 at 01:47 PM.

I've been online a year+2weeks. I will tell you I have improved in all 10 areas and my game is getting better for it. KEEPING FOCUSED is still my thorn. I often sit down to play poker and my mind is still on the project I left, the task I should be doing or the ball game that I'm watching with one eye. You miss an awful lot if you're not paying attention.

but not on FT
hi
on FT I could show you how to consistently NOT make the money on 10 seat sng's - pick a place from 10th to 4th and I could show you how to finish not in the money ;-)
At the moment I'd choose a different site to do it on - there nothing wrong with FT I just seem to have somekind of jinks on me there at the moment
maybe when I can actually prove to myself I can play like I used to be able to a year ago then it might be worth taping - at the moment I think I could give Tuff_Fish a run for his money

Some excellent tips Bob that will definately improve your game. 2 I would have added and made it a dozen, is patience patience patience and "don't get married to a hand" eg when you know your beat, let it go.

Thanks for the tips. Do you know maybe any books you would consider mandatory? I tried my luck on searching for
poker tips online and that's all I ended up with.

Keep focused is my big one...I need to get up every once in a while and shake it off because I wil lose concentration and start playing too loose.
