Thread: Calling Station

    Default Calling Station

    Hi folks!

I think you all know what kind of people I'm talking about when I say calling station. Recently I've played a tournament with about 300 people (5$ buy-in). 35 people were left and I think the first 30 would have won something. I raised about half my stack preflop with JQ, he called. Flop was 693 (rainbox) both checked, turn J, we both checked again because I figured he might have a strong hand. After the 7 on the river he checked and I moved all-in because I really thought he had nothing at all but could be dominated by a high card.

Of course the calling station called me with nothing but a K high and I finished 35th.

Why do people play like that play real money and finish at a top place?

Frustrating to say the least...what did the guy think he could beat at that point? That's what I always ask myself when I face a big bet.

You have to trust in the fact that eventually the skilled players rise to the top...and the not-so-good get their money taken.

Don't be discouraged by your play...the only thing is that you made the right one...against the wrong kind of player

if u think he can hold better hand then u, just check it, dont try to steal, cause u would be called just with better hand, so dont risk too much on stealing with hand that can be beaten. just check and show

    I think so too,
after all the calls, maybe he thought you are bluffing?
i'm not blaming him, many people does that, espaccialy on the low buy-in tourneys.
next time matbe you will raise the minimum, and that will make him fold his hand, and not chasing something.
