Thread: Changing your style

    Default Changing your style

    Hi!

I've noticed that I often change my play style in cash games without even noticing it. Sometimes I play ten hands very tight and get a fish after that. I have to say that I'm pretty successfull in cash games (win about 20$ a day) and I think it's because people don't know what I play (sometimes I don't even know it myself). Of course I have the odds in my mind, but my dessecion usually depends on my feeling.
I'd just like to know how do you handle that.

    Greetings
    hYrsch

    Default play similarly I think

    hi

I'd say I play similarly - although I dont tend to have a totally random starting hand selection I do tend to try to mix up my plays

I think this is the only way to get the most money out of a table - my trouble is I will double up (max buy-in) every hour for 2-3 hours then lose the plot a bit too much and get tied to a hand and then try to bluff with position regardless of how much they are telling me I'm beat

thats my way to cancel out 1 1/2hrs of 3hrs play in one / two stupid hands

plus the fact that in order to really play at my best I end up risking 1/2 my bankroll in each session - crazy but I like the mid games and have more sucess there than in the low / micro ones (which my bankroll says I should be in)

;-) keep up the winning formula

I find I can win at sit & gos just by playing straight-up poker; that is, raising premium hands aggressively, folding undesirable cards. I probably fold 70-80% of the time pre-flop.

Obviously as the # of players get smaller (or my stack size in relation to the blinds), I ramp up the play and really go for it.

My record so far in sit & gos (I just started less than 2 weeks ago) is:

22 games played, 9 finishes in the money, 5 of them wins. I see no reason to change my style when there are so many loose players out there.

Unless the table is really tight, I play the same way every time

I play with reference stats from poker software and with my intuition.
I have my software automatically record opponent actions in every round of a hand and display their past play stats if I have ever met them, alerting me to possible better hands or bulffer. For other things ,I would rely on my experience and feeling.
Lucky that I avoid losing much even if I don't always win on a table.
