Sometimes that is easier said then done!! What if everyone folds to you in SB and you only have an average trash hand, say K7. Do you try and steal the blind, do you just flat call (I hate this as the BB normally raises back), or do you just fold?

In tournaments, when you have a low stack, it's very difficult to be patience.
Because you want to go all-in with a pretty sucky hand.

Well in my opinion i think if your short stacked calling decent hands is the only chance you have to catch or suck out. The chances of you waiting for a good hand to come around arnt that high. And if everyone folds in front of you and you have a decent hand i would just call because chances are the guy infront of you is thinking the same thing everyone else just folded so hes probably gonna raise or he has a good hand since he was last to act.

    Default luck and patience

    hi

I would agree - patience is a very important part of playing poker

or discipline - it boils down to the same thing - being able to keep control and therefore play the best game you can

on the luck front - I truly believe that practise and good play will and do win over luck over the medium to long term - occasional bad beats / lucky breaks will not get a bad player a long term profit

looking at my stats / play now compared with 3-4 yrs ago I can definately see an improvement from being a reasonable marginal losing / borderline break even player in the first year to a moderately profitable one

ironically now I feel I'm a much better player I rarely have the time to sit down and play the hours I used to - and in our tournaments I tend to play ... well the loose side of loose (good for letting off steam) & while multi tasking - which again is another tip - dont try to do 10 things at once and play poker - it just doesnt work

    cheers scrawnybob

I agree. If your name isnt hevad kahn don't multi task. Too many distractions will get ur mindset off of poker. Then again, doing 1 other thing while playing poker may help relieve tension. anyways, Good advice.

Patience is always a big part of poker. The only time I would say patience should be minimized is in a "turbo" tournament. I mean, you should still wait for a decent hand to make a move but you don't want to blind-out either.
