If he leads out, smooth call to see the turn. I would use the check raise on the turn, especially if you hit the straight. If flush or blank comes on turn, bet if check to or check raise here to try to take pot down.
ya you really need to know the player. Even if he puts you on something like a draw like that, depending how risk averse he is he'll bet out. Comes down to know how good of a player he is also because he may have set traps earlier and switch up his gameplay to fool you...but if he's not that observant and just playing his cards then it'll be pretty straightforward.
