Default I have a silly question

Started a few minor tiffs at our house. Just want to clerify. Ill draw a diagram so I might best explain myself.

In my hand I have two 8, 8's - pair of 8's

On the flop there is - 3, k, 9, 9, Q

Would I call this hand a / two pair - saying that I have a pair of 8, 8's and a pair of 9's counting those in the flop.

Or would this simply be a pair of 8, 8's because I don't formally count the 9's as apart of my hand untill I can use them.

I realize that it actually makes no difference however, technically speaking, how would you approach this?

Thanks guys for any help.

Default poker hands

hi

your poker hand is - the best 5 card hand you can make from your dealt hand + the community cards

in the case of Texas Holdem it's the best 5 card poker hand you can make from your 2 hole cards (dealt cards) + the 5 community cards

therefore in the example you give

you have two pair - 8's & 9's

if for example the other player had a king and another card in their hand they would have also have made

two pair - 9's and Kings

and they would have therefore won

but if the question your asking is it two pair on flop no it isnt it is it is a pair of eights with a king high kicker because the second nine didnt come till the turn bye the way in this hand pocket eights you would to be very careful cause two over cards on the flop i mean some one could have pocket kings giveing them three of a kind kings or pair 9s giving them three 9s or 3s the same or they could have k 3 or k9 or 39 them two pair to mention if all three cards where suited meaning all of same suit example all diamonds all clubs etc ....... putting u way behind with eights

small and mid pairs are best if you get to see a cheap flop. the texture of the flop will help you decide how or if to continue

Default poker basics - rather than playing strategy

hi guys

I think having a look through the original post - its about the fundamentals of poker - see what hands are made etc / learning the rules

rather than playing strategy on what you'd do with the hand -

ragingbaboon - Am I right that you and your house mates / partner are newish poker players ?

then we can help you out i we know where to give you pointers from

cheers scrawnybob

You have two pair, its your best five card hand, my suggestion is that if your struggling on stuff like that, you should read a book or watch some tv and learn before hosting a game you know little about

you technically have two pair, however so does anyone else with a pair. i really hope that during this hand there was a lot of checking, because if you were chasing a better with a pair of 8's its's not generally the best idea. especially with a K and Q and two 9's on the board (all of which are overcards). you really shouldn't worry about this situation ever again, because when you see a flop with two cards higher than your own, it's time to bail.

well a silly question deserves a silly answer. SO all that i am going to say is that you are a very confused child. If you are asking silly questions now, what are you going to be asking in the future? your just a silly billy goat aren't you
