i'm going against the grain on this one i think...you are down to 1080 from posting the big blind. the VERY next hand you are gonna have to post the small blind plus the ante. so now you're down to 630. either way you're in bad shape and five handed...you are gonna have to get lucky one way or another. minus 50 every hand and ur gone on the next big blind regardless. i say go all in! worst is he's got AA which is very unlikely (and how often do you see those cracked). i think at the worst you are 35% to win and more than likely you have two live cards. and the min raise just seems to me he wants you in particular to fold. high risk, high reward!

I'm gonna go against what everyone is saying here. I would go all in. Look, sure King 8 isnt a playabe hand, but how much longer is he going to last if he doesn't make a stand? He's gotta post SB next hand, antes, he'll be a gonner in a few hands if he doesn't make a move. If he folds here the only way he's gonna cash in this tourney is if one of the bigger stacks does something stupid and bust, otherwise he has about 4 more shots at catching a hand better than King high. There's a very good chance that the raiser may have been stealing with a hand like ace rag or a small pocket pair. If that is the case, hero has two live cards and if he doubles up he's giving himself a chance to cash. However, if he folds here he's gonna be gone pretty soon anyway, so in my humble opinion, I'd be shoving here. But I will add, it is only my opinion.
IMHO if I've read it right your on the big blind
you've got stuck as the short stack and your on the bubble
you've ended up having to put in near enough half your chips in on the big blind (I'd have been interested what your previous 4-5 hands were (and what you did) - As I think if you had better cards previously I would have made a move then
but certainly not at this stage with K8
your almost certain to be called by the other player who raised (probably stealing the blinds and trying to get you out) he is almost certain to have a better hand but has enough chips to call an all-in with any hand and if he didnt have you beat he'd most likely have two live cards wit has much chance of out drawing you as you have of suviving with king high
the most important thing here is that you are on the BB - if you fold you have 4 more FREE hands (apart from the ante's) before your going to be stuck in for all your chips on the next SB and BB
IMHO K8 is not a hand to make a stand with when you know you will get called - It might be one to bluff with in one hand or two hands time - when you would be sending out a totally different signal to the other players
the thing about playing the very short stack is timing is very important - desperation is not good - calculated risk is
bear in mind short staked like this you want to just pick up the blinds and antes to get some breathing space - NOT necessarily win a hand by the showdown
Its far far easier to pick up the blinds in late postion with middle junk like K8 than it is on the BB where you are certain to get called - and your hand will have to stand up
so short answer - fold and get your money all-in at least once in the next 3-4 hands before the blinds come round again and make the decision for you
plus alot can happen in a couple of hands -one of the other players could make a mistake getting a big hand and getting beat ...
It's not pretty but that would mean you get into the money - maybe not with style but poker isnt a fashion show, it's a battle of wits and sometimes the sensible thing (of your getting no cards or bad postions) is to keep your head down and hope someone else fu*ks up
cheers scrawnybob
ps. in reply to kidjokers reply - if he is on the BB then he's already got through the SB so he has only the 50 antes for the next 3 or 4 hands
if the other guy is "stealing" with Ace rag or small pocket pair - that player is a very very long way ahead of a short stack playing K8 - this is exactly the sort of hand I would be fearing and EXACTLY why I would fold

Thanks Bob, you're right. This is what poker forums are for and this post has improved my game tremendesly.
Chances are that the raise is a blind stealer, but K8o isn't the hand to push with unless you have the stack to back yourself up. As has been pointed out, you still have 4 more cracks at good cards to look at for your big move. This is a fold situation IMHO.
