Default Kickers don't count on Two Pairs?

As I played into the PokerStars' WSOP giveway freeroll tournament yesterday evening, two players went all-in on one another and both showed the same two pairs (Q-7) with different kickers in their second card. However, the pot was split evenly, despite one having a stronger kicker in his hand.

Am I the only player finding this rather odd? Shouldn't kickers apply to all hands?

Default kickers count unless the board has better

    hi

yes kickers do count in this situation ... unless the board offers better

eg. in your example they both made 2 pair Queens and 7's

    lets say ...

    Player 1 holds Q K

    Player 2 holds Q 3

    say the board read - Q 7 7 4 J

then player 1 would win making the best hand from his dealt cards + the board so ...

    Q Q 7 7 with King kicker

beating the other players effective Jack kicker using the highest available kicker available from his hand and the board

but say the board read - Q 77 4 Ace

this would now be a split pot as player 1's king is no longer the best available kicker from the board and player hand

they would both use the Ace as their kicker and thus the hand would be a split

    hope thats a help

    cheers scrawnybob

    Post Explained

That is absolute correct info bob,

And ofcourse sometimes splitting the pot aint funny, but it happens .

The most funny split pot is , when the board shows a full house, or quads , or a flush , and nobody has a higher possible hand , then you see the pot going in every direction , so funny , then you go darn, why didnt i bet at it.

One very funny one was JJ vs QQ , flop comes KKK , jj is in a world of hurt , unless two aces pop up , and it did in a live tournament 25 buy in here ! that one hurt for the one with queens . !
Split pot , but ey , he was happy it where no two jacks at the end ..
