I do believe you are wrong about bodog, and I can't comment about UB, never played there.
At bodog the tournament dollars can be used to register into any MTT. They won't steal your cents or pennies. The cost of the tournament is a direct deduction from your total. On the main lobby screen it will show only total dollars not the cents, and if you enter your account page and search the tournament dollars you will see the record of the deductions and that they clearly match the cost of the entry fee.
To the original poster,
Congrats and well done, a start financially at a site that you seem comfortable with, that in my view is half of the battle. If you are only beginning poker, keep on at the freerolls, and don't be too hungry initially to see the bankroll rise. I would continue the way you have been in the freerolls and mix in a real money game once or twice a week when you feel that you are playing well. The best advice is not which games to play in, because that is as individual as you are, (test a few SNG's and MTT's and see which you prefer) but to take the time and review the games that you play picking out the good hands and bad hands and seeing what you did right and where you made your mistakes. This will improve your game 10 times faster than choosing any game type or searching for the bigger cash wins and it goes without saying READ, READ, READ any poker literatue you can get your hands on. There are some great poker strategy guides and tips here in the forum. You'll find those
here (Strategy guides) and
here (General tips and advice), that ought to keep you busy for a while.
There are plenty of people on this forum that have the skills and desire to help new players to the game, you've definately come to the right place. If you require any further assistance don't hesitate to ask, I'm only a PM away if that would help.
TTFN and keep up the good work.
