The Turn
If your here you should have one of two things
A) A good solid made hand - with plenty of money in the pot and a narrowed field
You just need to be aware of how the 4th and 5th cards could have helped anyone else -
Did you put them on a draw when they called your big raise ?
If so could the 4th or 5th made their hand ?
still make them pay to play - but always bee aware that what was the nuts on the flop - may NOT be the nuts anymore.
B) A drawing hand & got to see the 4th cheaply
If you hit it on the 4th then go ahead and bet - be aware though they may have got help too - if you hand wasn't the best draw then you could be in trouble - WHY DID THEY GIVE YOU THE CHEAP CARD IN THE FIRST PLACE ??
If you really have the nuts then a check raise or even a flat call slow playing till the 5th maybe the best approach - just remember you really need to know you have it and I mean REALLY KNOW
Say you have made an ace high flush by the 4th card - have you REALLY got the nuts ? is there a possibility of a Full House that you have been ignoring ? is there a chance of a straight flush ?
You Have
Mr Tight
Mr Loose
As 10s
3c 3d
4s 6s
flop comes down
3s 5h 7s
nothing
trip 3's
straight
possible nut ? flush
possible full house
straight & flush draw (straight flush draw too)
turn card 5s
made ace high
makes full house
makes straight flush the real nuts
this hand is really an extreme example but it really is worth looking at - because everyone had something at some stage - except before the flop when Mr Loose stayed in with a random 46 suited by the flop - your drawing to make an ace high flush
Mr Tight has made trips off his pocket threeıs - normally a powerful hand
And Mr Loose has now got lucky from his junk hand and got - a straight and flush draw and a straight flush draw.
Now at this stage everyone has caught a bit of the action and whatever happens its going to get ugly
When the 5s comes up on the turn - it looks like it's helped everyone - with an ace high flush you could be thinking youıve got the best hand, Mr Tight is pleased with his full house but itıs Mr Loose who is going to take the money with the nuts straight flush - unless Mr Tight hits a 3 on the river.
Playing passively - calling, checking, not taking control of the table is how situations like this develop.
Yes your going to get bad beats, when your best hand gets beaten my someone getting the one miracle card to beat you on the river - but for the most part ³bad beats² happen because of slow playing and letting players stay in too cheaply.
The River
There isn't much reason to bet big here - all the cards are out and so any big bets on the 5th are down to either a big hand or a big bluff.
Dont be too tempted to try and get anyone off their hand with a bluff on the 5th - by now they are pretty committed, it maybe a medium strength hand but is going to beat a bluff, so unless you really have a good read on the player - save your money.
