| Aces Up | Two pair, the highest pair being aces. |
| Action | Putting chips in the pot, gambling of any sort. |
| Action Player | A player who gives a lot of action, also called a loose player. |
| Act out of turn | A player attempting to bet or raise before his turn to act. |
| Advertise | To bluff and then show the hand to other players in the hope that they will later call when they have a decent hand. |
| American Airlines | Two Aces - AA. |
| All-in | Chucking all you chips into the pot. |
| Ante | The small compulsory bet that all must pay to play each round. |

| Babies | Small cards - 2,3,4 or 5. |
| Back Door | To make a flush or a straight with the last two cards even when this wasn't the hand the polayer was originally drawing to. |
| Bad Beat | When a great hand is beaten by a lucky draw (ie. AA bet all-in & called by someone with 72 before the flop who then goes on to win). |
| Bankroll | A players total stake money. |
| Belly Buster | A draw and/or catch to an inside straight. |
| Best Hand | The hand that takes the pot. |
| Bet | To put chips into the pot. |
| Bet half the pot | To bet half the amount of the pot. |
| Bet into | To make a bet looking at what seems to be a superior hand. |
| Bet the Pot | When a player bets the amount of the pot. |
| Bicycle | A straight - A,2,3,4,5. |
| Big Blind | The bigger of the two compulsory bets in Texas Hold'em. |
| Big Slick | Ace King (AK) maybe AK suited or off. |
| Blank | A card that doesn't look like it's improved anyone's hand. |
| Blinds | The compulsory bets made before the deal in games like Texas Hold'Em. |
| Bluff | When you bet more than the value of your hand would suggest, in the hope that others would fold better hands. Making players believe you have a better hand than you actually have. |
| Board | The community cards dealt out on the table shared by all players. |
| Bottom Pair | When a player pairs the lowest card on the board. |
| Broadway | An Ace high straight A,K,Q,J,10. |
| Broomcorn's Uncle | Someone who antes or blinds themselves away. |
| Bullets | A pair of Aces. |
| Bump | To Raise. |
| Burn | To take a card from the top of the deck before dealing out the cards (in an attempt to stop cheating) which is placed in the discards. |
| Button | The dealer button, round disk moved around clockwise to denote which player is dealer. |
| Buy-in | The minimum amount needed to sit down in a particular poker game. |
| Buy the button | A bet or raise which makes or is made to make the players behind you fold, thus making you the last to act in future betting rounds. |

| Call | Matching the previous bet to stay the hand without raising it. |
| Calling Station | A derogatory term for a player who consistently calls and connot be bluffed. |
| Card Speak | When the cards are laid face up on the table the correct reading of the hand will win the pot - Even if the player miss calls his hand. |
| Cash out / in | To leave the game and convert your chips to cash - A good thing. |
| Check | To offer a free card to the rest of the table in the hope that everyone checks and you all get to see the next card for free / without a bet. |
| Check-Raise | When a player first checks then raises after someone bets in the same betting round. |
| Chemmy Shuffle | To scramble the cards face down on the table. |
| Chinch Hand | A hand that will win easily. |
| Chop | Same as to split the pot. |
| Clinic | A game where there are lots of post-mortems about previous hands. |
| Coffee Housing | Talking in an attempt to mislead other players about the strength of your hand (considered bad ettiquette in the UK but fine in the US). |
| Community Cards | Cards on the table used by all players to make their hand. |
| Connectors | Consecutive cards which could help make a straight. |
| Cowboys | Two Kings. |
| Cripple the Deck | To have all the cards that make up a good hand with a particular board, making everyone else's hands unplayable, if you bet no-one would call. |

| Dead man's hand | Two pair, Aces and Eights - The hand Wild Bill Hickock was shot in the back while playing this hand in 1876. |
| Dealers Choice | A game where each dealer, in turn, chooses the type of poker game to be played. |
| Deuces | A pair of Twos. |
| Dog | The worst or underdog hand. |
| Down Cards | The cards dealt to a player that only they can use. |
| Doyle Brunson | 10-2 the hand Doyle Brunson won the World Championship with 2 years in a row. |
| Drawing dead | Drawing to a hand that can't possibly win. |
| Drawing hand | A potentially strong hand which needs a particular card(s) to make it. |
| Driving Seat | A player holding the best hand and making the betting. |
| Ducks | Pair of Twos. |

| Early Position | In a position at the table where the player must act before most of the other players (usually the two seats to the left of the binds). |
| Expectation | The average amount you make in a specific period or event. |

| Family Pot | A pot in which most if not all of the players are involved. |
| Fast game | A game with lots of action and frequently heavy betting. |
| Fast Player | A heavy and frequent raiser. |
| Feeler Bet | A minimum bet made to test the strength of other players hands. |
| Fifth Street | The 5th community card dealt, also known as the 5th or the "River". |
| Fill up | To hit your draws and make your hand. |
| Fish | A weak player, also known as the "sucker". |
| Flat Call | Calling a bet without raising. |
| Flop | The first 3 community cards dealt. |
| Flush | Any five cards of the same suit. |
| Flush Draw | When a player has 4 cards to the flush and is hoping to draw a fifth to make his flush. |
| Fold | To lay down your hand, thus giving up any claim to the pot for that hand. |
| Fold out of turn | To fold early, not good manners. |
| Four of a kind | Four cards of the same value or number also known as Quads. |
| Fourth Street | The forth community card dealt, also know as the 4th or the turn card. |
| Free Card | When all players check, the next card is seen for free. |
| Freeroll | Online tournament which can be entered for free, generally providing they have cashed into a money account. |
| Freezeout | A game or tournament where all players start with the same amount and play until one player has won all the chips. |
| Friendly Game | A rare and as unseen as rocking horse sh*t. |
| Full House | Any three cards of the same value, plus any other two cards of the same value - ie. trips and a pair. |
