September 25, 2007 - Full Tilt Poker Pro Chris "Jesus" Ferguson has finally completed his marathon project to turn zero dollars into a $10,000 bankroll at FullTilt.
Lets face it Chris hardly needs to make it difficult for himself and he could play the big game anytime he chooses but this is about showing everyone else it can be done.
It's taken just over 16 months to turn $0 into $10,000 and is the perfect example of successful bankroll management ... A lesson for us all.
He never buys into a cash game or a Sit & Go with more than 5 percent of his total bankroll
The only exception is at the lowest limits where he is allowed to buy into any game with a buy-in of $2.50 or less
He doesn’t buy into a multi-table tournament for more than 2 percent of his total bankroll, but he’s allowed to buy into any multi-table tournament that costs $1.
He must leave if at any time during a No-Limit or Pot-Limit cash-game session the money on the table represents more than 10 percent of his total bankroll - he must leave the game when the blinds reach him.
How Did Chris Ferguson Build Zero into $10K
Starting with nothing but an empty Full Tilt Poker account meant he played in freerolls until building enough to play in the real-money games with the smallest buy-in.
Sticking strictly to his bankroll management rules meant this wasnt going to be a boom or bust approach and it took a staggeringly well disciplined 7 months to build up a bankroll of ... $6.50
Then in November last year Ferguson came 2nd in a $1 buy-in winning $104 in a 683 person tournament. Nine months later he managed to break the $10,000 dollar mark.
Chris has pledged to donate his winnings to the Save The Children Foundation now that he has reached $10,000. A great gesture and an amazing example of discipline which surely tells us meer mortals we should be just as sensible when it comes to our own bankroll management if we want to be successful.
