Pokerstars pro Daniel Negreanu is trying to turn $10 into $100k in his PokerStars Challenge ... Following on from Chris Jesus Fergusons zero to $10k challenge.
January 30, 2009 - PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu has started a $10 to $10k cash game challenge at PokerStars in a similar way to Chris Jesus Ferguson's zero to $10,000 challenge which he completed a couple of years ago.
Daniel is planning to start with $10 and turn that into $100,000 in around 3 years time ... which is one hell of a long term challenge starting from such a poker bankroll.
He will be playing exclusively at Poker Stars and only in cash games, obviously starting at the very lowest $0.01/0.02 limits.
There are couple of interesting features of his self imposed rules (see below) that go against some of the accepted rules of bankroll management ...
He can buy-in for up to a 1/5th of his bankroll which is at least twice as risky as the generally accepted maximum of 10% of total bankroll at any one time.
The other really interesting thing is Daniel has said he will NOT be moving down limits ... so if things start to go wrong instead of moving down as is the accepted approach - he will have to tough it out at the same limit regardless of what level he is at.
To date Negreanu has played 786 hands & won around $15. Once he hits the $25 mark he will move up to the $0.02/0.05 games until reaching $50.
It will be interesting to see if Negreau has the determination and patience to grind through the micro low stakes games to get up towards his preferred high stakes games ... Good Luck
Daniel Negreanu $10 Challenge Rules

2. Buy-in to each session will be 1/5th of current bankroll.
3. Only NL hold'em cash games, and full ring where possible
4. If bankroll is doubled in a session, quit at the blinds of next orbit to protect roll
5. Once at $5/$10 number of required big blinds may go up at Negreanu's discretion
6. Once at higher limit games, buy-in per session may be reduced to 1/10th of bankroll at Negreanu's discretion.
7. When the amount needed to reach the goal is less than the 1/5th of the bankroll buy in, the buy in will be equal to the amount needed to reach the goal. Example: If 1/5th of the bankroll is $4.50 but you only need $2.50 to reach the goal, the buy in for the next session will be $2.50.
