US Government Are Rogues Not Poker Rooms
I have been updating the blog with the latest Full Tilt announcements as they come in this week, with 2 more expected hopefully soon. This generated an interesting forum thread discussing the Full Tilt Poker announcements … I’m a definate +1 to NB1963′s comments.
I hadn’t mentioned it in that specific thread (but I’ve ranted on it before) that in fact it’s the US Gov’t that are proven to be in contravention of international law under the WTO.
So its actually the US government that are rogue not the poker rooms.
USA Government Ignore International Law
As I said before just because poker rooms haven’t taken the US government to court (it would be too expensive and lengthy) to challenge the UIGEA and take on the US Gov’t, that doesn’t make the UIGEA legal or the US gov’t right.
Antigua have already got a clear ruling AGAINST the US GOv’t that they are rogue and breaking international law as far back as 2005 by the WTO … see here
See also more poker related roguishness from US GOv’t here, here, here & here
And it’s not like the US gov’t just has a problem with following international law when it comes to online poker either, they ignore WTO rulings and break international trade agreements with lots of things …
US uses WTO when it suits them
Hmm so the US Gov’t completely ignores the WTO ?
Well no, infact they are quite happy to complain to them when it suits them here if they feel THEY are loosing out (they won).
The problem is the US Gov’t don’t give a sh*t, the WTO and the rest of the world can rule against them all day long – If they loose they just ignore it and carry on.
Looks to me like we have a government that could do with a bit of regulating themselves.
Oh wait they are regulated … by the WTO but they choose to ignore it
Looks to me like we have a rogue government on our hands people
Nevada Legislation Geared for US Gov’t and Casinos to “Rule” the World
It looks like as I suspected the proposed Nevada legislation / regulation which they hope for on a federal level is frankly nothing more than the US attempting to steal the industry.
Yes I said steal – they will be stealing jobs from the rest of the world by forcing not only all servers & jobs to be in Nevada etc for US sites / games. But but also for those sites wanting to operate both in the US and internationally.
That IS without question a breach of international trade laws …
read … Nevada Gaming Control Board publishes online poker law amendments
“While the latter paragraph specifically mentions interstate action, the earlier mention of foreign jurisdictions’ suggests that while qualified foreign operators would have to install their servers within Nevada’s borders, foreign poker players would not necessarily be excluded from dipping their toes into the US liquidity pool from the comfort of their foreign living rooms. Without US reciprocity to operators in foreign countries, this would basically be a massive violation of global trade standards, but it wouldn’t be the first time the US has gone rogue on the WTO”.
The problem is the while legally in the right the WTO and the rest of the worlds global economies cannot deal with the US rogue state because although the US is signed up to obey WTO rulings …
They just ignore international law and carry on regardless …
The USA is like some sort of offshore rogue pirate state (sounds familar ?)
USA Gone Rogue on the WTO
That people, is why non US players are getting sick of the rhetoric coming out of the US about the need for regulation (read the need for US controlled regulation) and why the rest of us dont want to be ruled or dicated to by US gov’t or lose jobs etc to corrupt and misleading “regulation” of a global industry that was already being done effectively – just not by the US.
Its not our fault the US gov’t woke up too late to a responsibly managed industry and found it was already being managed by other countries and regulators and decided the only way to get not only a slice of the pie but try to get all the pie was by deceit and stealth via the UIGEA and then to try and bankrupt the competition … blaming the problems they caused on the poker rooms
What can be learnt from this ?
1) the US government dont give a sh*t about, respect or obey international law
2) the US government dont give a shi*t about the fact that they dont give a sh*t about international law and they dont give a sh*t about contravening WTO rulings against them
In conclusion the reason why the poker rooms haven’t tried a legal challenge to the US Gov’t / UIGEA / DOJ is because it would likely cost a fortune financially and in time and at the end of it even if they won the case it would likely mean that the US gov’t would ignore the ruling by the WTO or spend yet more years not overturning the UIGEA until it suited them
Some battles you just cant win …
The poker rooms knew this when the UIGEA came in, and that is why they carried on operating through the UIGEA without making a legal challenge.
Because being right is all well and good but it would have cost them their business and lost revenue to fight it legally and the case would in all probability still be going on 6 years later with their businesses in tatters.
Your Government Needs You … To Swallow Their Bullsh*t
Seriously wake up and smell the agenda people, the UIGEA was never about player safety, protecting minors or even the preserve of the religious right.
It was about screwing the already regulated “offshore” global online poker industry because the US government and US casinos had complete failed to get a piece of the pie.
This nonsense about a need for US regulation doesn’t hold water and only has gained some public support as a result of the DOJ using the UIGEA to make some poker rooms financially unstable.
I can guarantee US legislation will NOT be offering anymore scutiny of RNG’s, accounts, segregating accounts or anything else under their “super” regulation. It will merely be used as a blunt instrument to leverage their way into charging more tax, more rake (to pay for the tax) and behaving in the most anti competitive way possible.
Players need to understand cause and effect in the whole Full Tilt saga.
If the USA had complied with WTO ruling which ruled the UIGEA illegal wayback, they would have had to allow US poker players to play on global poker rooms and allow global trade and this whole mess and DOJ seizures would never have been allowed to happen.
Dont sleep walk into supporting the solution offered by those that caused the problem in the first place.
